...For lack of a better phrase and because it is simple and all-inclusive, I am in the eyecare business.
It is the one “business” that I have found in which you can truly make a positive impact on the quality of someone’s life. Patients come to us so that we will help them to see as well as they possible can. And, if you think about it, it is an awesome responsibility. There are nearly 300 million Americans. Of these, the majority need some form of correction.
Let me pause for a moment for a quick medical plug. Let me pause for a moment for a quick medical plug. I am not talking to the population that wears glasses, I am talking to the rest of you. I meet people every day who are intelligent and well-educated and they truly believe that because they see well that their eyes are just fine. They’ll say, “I haven’t been to the eye doctor in 15 years.” – and they say it proudly.
So my plug, go have your eyes examined every two years at a minimum. I would want you to go every year, but I’ll settle for once every two. Your optometrist, ophthalmologist, whichever you prefer can detect so many potential ailments such as Diabetes, hypertension, cancer, and neurological disorders and detection is earlier in some instances than might be through other medical testing.
In addition, if your company is not providing routine access to eyecare for your employees, you should consider it. It is very inexpensive and will in the long-run positively affect your overall health care costs… Jeffrey Baltas –
